Signal Hill National Historic Site & Cabot Tower

From the ruins of Queen’s Battery to visiting the Cabot Tower, there are numerous attractions with historical relevance to be discovered. During the summer months, the traditional Noonday Gun is fired. Although it started as a military time signal 150 years l8r, it still continues to this day.
Fort Amherst
After you have taken photos at Signal hill and the battery lookout spot, travel to Fort Amherst. Capture the scenic views of the cliff, ocean, and the lighthouse itself. Located on the south side of The Narrows in St. John’s harbour, this spot is quite famous for two things, whale watching and viewing icebergs.

Cape Spear Lighthouse
Located southeast of St. John’s, Cape Spear is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland. Built in 1836, this lighthouse sits on top of the cliff with dramatic views worth photographing. Fifteen minutes away from downtown, this tall white lighthouse is perched at the most easterly point. While you are there, learn more about the seafaring history, check out the 19th-century furnishings, and take a tour of the Victorian lighthouse and its surroundings.

Anglican Cathedral of St John the Baptist
Dating back to the 19th century, this cathedral boasts Gothic Revival architecture. Built between 1842 and 1892, the current structure of the cathedral was rebuilt in 1905 after the Great Fire of 1892. It is one of North America’s finest examples of intricate architecture and was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott.
Quidi Vidi Harbour
This is one of the most instagrammable spots in Newfoundland. The lively harbour is filled with fishing boats and colourful fishing shacks.
